Who Had What is a bill-splitting app for iPhone. The short version: there's no account, your bills stay on your phone, and the only bill data that goes online is a bill you choose to share with a link. That shared copy is deleted after 30 days.
What stays on your phone
Your bills, the people on them, payments, groups, your name and your settings are saved only on your iPhone. We can't see them. If you delete the app, they're gone.
- Camera and photos. Receipt photos are read on your iPhone to fill in the items. They aren't uploaded.
- Contacts. If you allow it, Who Had What lists your contacts so you can add people by name. Your contacts aren't uploaded. Only the names you add to a bill are saved, on your phone, and go online only if you share that bill with a link (see below).
- Location. If you allow it, Who Had What shows nearby places so you can tag where a bill was. Your location isn't saved. Place search is done by Apple Maps, under Apple's privacy policy.
What goes online: shared links
When you choose Share a link so friends can pick what they had, a copy of that bill is stored on our server (hosted by Cloudflare) so your friends' phones can open it. The copy contains:
- the bill's name and date,
- the names of the people on the bill, as you entered them,
- the items and prices, and what each person picked,
- once the bill is finished: the total, each person's part, and who pays whom (and which of those are marked paid),
- only if you added them under How friends pay you: your Venmo username, $Cashtag and PayPal.me name, so friends can open those apps to pay you, and the phone number or email you gave for Zelle, so friends can copy it. Who Had What never handles the money.
It doesn't contain your contacts, location, photos or any account, and no phone number or email other than one you added for Zelle. Anyone with the link can open that bill, so only share it with the people on it. The shared copy is deleted automatically 30 days after it's made. Bills on your phone aren't affected.
Friends without an iPhone can open the same link in a web browser, on a page on this website. That page reads and sends the same shared-bill copy described above, and nothing else: it shows the bill and sends what the friend picked. To remember which name the friend chose, it saves that choice only in their browser, on their device; it isn't sent anywhere. The page has no ads, analytics or tracking, and uses no cookies.
Like most servers, the hosting provider may briefly keep technical logs (such as IP addresses) to run and protect the service. We don't use them to identify you.
Exchange rates
When a bill is in another currency (Who Had What Pro), the app looks up that day's exchange rate from Frankfurter, a free service with rates from central banks. The request contains only the two currency codes (like EUR and USD) and the date, nothing about the bill or you. Like any website, Frankfurter sees your IP address. You can always type your own rate instead.
Purchases
Who Had What Pro is bought through the App Store. Apple handles the payment; we never see your payment details.
What we don't do
- No accounts, ads, analytics or tracking.
- This website (whohadwhatapp.com) has no ads, analytics or tracking either, and uses no cookies.
- We don't sell or share your data.
Children
Who Had What isn't made for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect anything from them.
Your choices
You can delete any bill in the app. To have a shared copy removed before its 30 days are up, delete the bill or email us with the link.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
